I invite you to join me in congratulating 37 Spring and Summer graduates of the Department of Epidemiology. In this issue of the newsletter we feature student-faculty collaborations, such as a project to detect delirium risk which spans three colleges, two students and two faculty. Another highlight is the work faculty, students and community members are doing to identify stories that explain racism in relationship to cancer prevention.
As this academic year comes to an end we are thrilled to see four Epi students recognized by the UI Dare to Discover campaign for their multidisciplinary research, accolades for a UI Scholar of the Year, the 50-year anniversary of the Iowa Cancer Registry, and more. The Department’s data resources have helped many to ‘super-size’ their research – for example, several students have studied national cancer samples because of the Department’s Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services-approved server and our privilege to host a NCI SEER registry.
Our analytics tell me you are still opening and clicking this newsletter. I hope you are enjoying what you read, but statistics only say so much – send me a note if you’d like to provide some qualitative data!
